Call to Action Against Antisemitism
a story about the blood libel of Israeli couple at a California hotel
Good morning readers. I will make this brief. I don’t want you to get angry, nor get into a rage spiral. I don’t want you to use this story to rage farm or spread despair. I want you to take constructive action. Do something concrete. And call others to the same concrete action.
Before I go any further, I will tell readers that the hotel fired this man from his job. So the concrete action to take does not involve harassing the hotel. You could applaud the hotel management for taking swift corrective action.
This morning I learned about an unnamed man who worked at a hotel in Cambria California. An Israeli couple came in to rent a room and the hotel employee working the desk harassed them with the comment “free Palestine.” The unnamed man working behind the desk of what is purported to be Oceanpoint Ranch Hotel in Cambria, California seemed fixated on Israel as a Zionist state, as if Zionist meant some kind of particular evil. The unnamed man then asked the couple “are you a Zionist … are you a baby killer … did you serve in the IDF?”
Needless to say the couple didn’t appreciate the harassment and bigotry of the unnamed hotel employee. They only wanted a room. Imagine treating your paying customers like this, imagine representing your employer’s business like this. And imagine feeling so proud and self righteous that you film your antisemitic harassment of an Israel couple on your work time and post it on Instagram. Did Mr. Big Tough Free Palestine Anonymous Guy open that Instagram account to post that video? That’s unknown. As of time of writing one video post has 6,647 comments and 2,886 re-shares, and 411k people have seen the video. I counted 100 likes on this post. He’s got 4,311 followers.
“All I said was free Palestine … You’re a Zionist … are you a baby killer?”
So, most people know that Israel has mandatory conscription for Israeli Jewish men and women. Effectively demonising and targeting IDF soldiers means demonising and targeting Jewish people who have Israeli citizenship.

But wait, there’s more. Feeling hard done by, Mr. Anonymous thought he would elicit the monetary support of the masses to help his “just cause”, because y’know, he cares so much about the Middle East and his employer simply didn’t understand the urgency of the justice for Palestinians that harassment of Israelis entails. So, Ryan Smith (I’m doubting that’s his real name) started a GoFundMe so people can support his ass after he got himself fired for harassing customers. Reader, you can’t make this sh1t up. Really can’t.

Please do not get your asshole on and trot around lobbing verbal ballistic asshole missiles at this guy or anyone who supports him. Assholery will not change the world. Ranting will not change the world. Pontificating will not change the world. Your concrete and constructive actions will change the world. And you take concrete and constructive action because it’s the right thing to do, not because you anticipate your actions will elicit the results your expect. Maybe nothing will come of it. You did the right thing, and will continue to do the right thing when you see antisemitic behaviour and when you see bullying and harassment behaviour and when you see anyone mistreated because of who they are, a thing they cannot change.
Saying “Free Palestine” to a visibly Jewish person or to someone you know to be an Israeli would be like telling a Chinese person to “Free the Uighurs.” It is wrong. You have judged an individual by the offenses you’ve attributed to a larger group that you’ve associated them with.
It should go without saying that no Palestinian is helped by Ryan’s (or whatever his name is) antisemitism.
Western progressives, in making yourselves useful idiots for Islamist Jew haters by taking up the anti-Zionist banner, you actually HARM the Palestinian cause. You have made yourselves a NET LIABILITY by exploiting the Palestinian cause to promote your hatred of Jews. Yes, Zionist is a synonym for Jew, anyone who can still think for themselves can see this. AntiZionism is the new antiSemitism. As Rabbi Jonathan Sacks said, antisemitism mutates, it’s a viral and enduring form of hatred that never dies, it mutates.
Remember the world is not changed by your opinion. And no one is served by your ranting and pontificating and your assholery. And no one is served by your hatred and bigotry. Concrete and constructive action changes the world. Compassion and self restraint serves others.
Zionism is simply Jewish self determination. Zionism existed before Israel did. Zionists saved Jews during the Holocaust, antiZionists blocked the life-saving rescue efforts of Zionists. Zionists aren’t your boogeyman. Genocide is a word now wildly overused by the Wokerati, who decide that everything that offends them is genocide. Women’s rights are genocidal, Jewish self determination is genocidal, it’s become a sick joke. It has the effect of cheapening the word genocide and emptying it of meaning.
Words carry weight, use them with care.
Can Ryan Smith and others who applaud his behaviour tell us all how that stunt which cost him his job helped Palestinians? Many of us are probably curious as to how the harassment of Israelis helps anyone suffering in Gaza or the West Bank right now.
